Glue guns have their own "rules of the road". A hot glue gun must be maintained and kept free of dirt and former use debris, and kept well clear of pets and children for safety.
Hot glue guns are very much like curling irons or steam irons in that they need a resting surface while activated and heated that does not melt, bleed or react to heat from the electric element in the glue gun. Pets and small children should be kept clear of heated glue guns.
Working with a hot glue gun at a high temperature requires more focus and concentration than a low melt glue gun. Also, working with a lower melting temperature glue gun allows the crafter or operator more time to assemble the next step, if needed. Low melt glue guns are safer than hot glue guns at the highest temperatures because they are less likely to burn project surfaces.
Low melting temperature glue sticks need to be used with a hot glue gun working from a "low melt" standpoint. High or hot-temp glue guns will consume more glue faster and need more frequent reloading. A heavy duty hot glue gun will utilize epoxy or other heavier duty glue stick types.
